Dubai International Airport is serving Dubai which is the largest city of the United Arab Emirates. In 1998 Terminal 2 was built which has a capacity of approx 5 million as of 2009 after passing through several reconstructions. This terminal is basically used by smaller airlines which are operating in the Persian Gulf region. Most of these flights operate to Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Because the Terminal got overcrowded and congested it was expanded in recent years. Terminal 2 is used by approximately 26 airlines and it offers around 36 check-in counters. Terminal 2 was also considered as the hub of Fly Dubai in June 2009. Airline’s corporate head office is also found at this Terminal 2.
Terminal 2 has undergone many major refurbishments recently which are the extending check-in and boarding facilities, changing the interior and exterior décor which also offers more dining choices to passengers. Previously the capacity was of 2 million but it has increased to 5 million. The terminal now offers many facilities for the convenience of passengers. Now there are 36 Check-in counters made and boarding area is also more spacious now with more natural light. Airport authorities are now expanding Terminal 2 which includes a new check-in hall and departure area, and Terminal building is also extending to get more space. You will find the check-in area, an immigration section, management offices, and a departure facility in the main hall of Terminal 2.
The Dubai duty-free shopping covers area of about 15,000 sq ft in departure area and around 540 sq ft in arrival area. You can also view LIVE Dubai flight arrival schedules on the screens.
